Chichester is one of the few places on this coast with a direct train to Gatwick, at around 50 minutes – in the daytime, with light luggage, it is a fair option and we will not pretend otherwise. But the first trains are too late for the earliest check-ins, the service thins out late at night, and Heathrow, Stansted and Luton all mean crossing London with your bags.
